Confessions of a non-force chiropractor

Spinal manipulation usually produces a “popping” or “cracking” sound similar to what occurs when you crack your knuckles. Both are due to a phenomenon called cavitation, which occurs when there is a sudden decrease in joint pressure brought on by the manipulation. That allows dissolved gasses in the joint fluid to be released into the joint itself. Chiropractors sometimes state that the noise means that something therapeutic has taken place. However, the noise has no health-related significance and does not indicate that anything has been realigned. It simply means that gas was allowed to escape under less pressure than normal. Knuckles do not “go back into place” when you crack them, and neither do spinal bones.
For 35 years I have used a non-force approach to delivering the best chiropractic care available. By and large, most of my patients have responded favorably to this non-force approach. Non-force chiropractic among chiropractic techniques has never been more popular with patients and chiropractors alike. Traditional chiropractic manipulation has been a mainstay within the chiropractic profession for over 100 years with excellent results. However, there is a growing population of patients that are seeking a gentler approach to their chiropractic care. Many chiropractors have stepped up to the demand by incorporating techniques that deliver excellent results without the "popping" or "twisting." This makes chiropractic available to those prospective patients who would otherwise shy away from seeing a chiropractor completely.
I, myself, incorporate many non-force chiropractic styles to fit the needs of the individual patient. So, when you are searching for a chiropractor in your area, ask if they employ a non-force method of treatment.
