In the, not too distant, past chiropractors were considered quacks. In fact, in the 1950’s chiropractic was illegal to practice in many states in the U.S. Presently, chiropractic is the third largest population of healthcare providers behind medicine and dentistry.
The truth is, chiropractor’s overall classroom hours are almost the same as a medical doctor. Medical doctors get more training in pharmacology, public health and surgery. Chiropractors have more hours in radiology, anatomy, nutrition and physiology. Also, medical doctors don’t get any training in adjustment techniques while chiropractors get extensive training.
Chiropractors are considered primary healthcare providers who are licensed to diagnose, prescribe x-rays and physical therapy and bill insurance.
So, to answer the question: Yes. Chiropractors earn a Doctorate degree and are considered real doctors by state regulatory agencies and are licensed in all 50 states in the U.S.
